Early Years
K1 K2 K3Care is taken to enhance the sense of security, warmth and fun that the children experience here.
Children commence their journey inK1 at the age of 2 years and 10 months. With the support of qualified and empathetic class teachers and their assistants, the tiny tots learn to quickly adjust to a new environment and see school as a home away from home. They begin to adapt, explore and socialize, learning through play for three and a half hours each day. They learn to communicate in English by asking questions, listening to and speaking with their teachers and friends. They also learn to recognize numbers, alphabets and their phonic sounds. Colouring is done with crayons and paints for better writing readiness. When they move into K2 the following year, they begin to write the numerals and alphabets and read some sight words. In K3, children progress into reading and writing simple sentences and are taught some numeric concepts as well.
The Early Years children take part in music and movement sessions along with art and craft. Activity corners make room for effective hands-on learning experiences and play time in the sandpit is an everyday affair. Children also take part in regular nature walks and picnics on the lawn and gardens around which the classrooms are arranged. The weekly story sessions are participative and impart good values while a monthly Show and Tell helps develop students into confident speakers. Family Fun-time bonding activities happen once a term. Rainbow Week and Nutri-Meal week are held annually in addition to Sports Day and Annual Day. These events have every Little Deccanite participating enthusiastically to theme based activities. Class appropriate competitions are held every month and the winners are awarded certificates and prizes. An informal assessment is held twice a term in the form of the Kiddie Quiz. By the end of the third year, students of K3 will be equipped to successfully cross the bridge over into Junior School.
